Sort managed swim spots from unmaintained falls first, and you won't get stranded by a monsoon flash flood or a dry-season trickle.
"There's a waterfall, so I can probably swim there" is the assumption that gets travelers into trouble in Vietnam. A calf-deep stream can turn into a flash flood within hours of heavy rain, and some falls run nearly dry in the dry season. This list separates staffed sites with life jackets and marked zones from wilder falls with little to no upkeep.
Each entry notes what gear you'll actually need and when the risk spikes. If staff on site tell you not to swim, take the hint -- switching to photos and a walk is a legitimate way to use this list too.
