What makes or breaks an autumn drive in Korea isn't the destination — it's the road itself. This list skips vague road names in favor of ten specific rest stops, lookout points, and parking areas where you can actually pull over and take in the view.
Sharp curves, fog, and longer braking distances on fallen leaves all take priority over getting the shot. Hand the camera to a passenger, and check each spot's parking situation and your return time before you leave.

Hangyeryeong Rest Area
This is the benchmark stop on Gangwon's Nature Road, where the western ridgeline of Seoraksan turns color end to end and you can actually pull over to see it. Coming from either Inje or Yangyang, check road closures and parking availability first, and slow down well before the sharp curves. If the lot is full, don't park on the shoulder — find an alternate viewpoint instead.

Maltijae Observatory
Twelve hairpin turns and the foliage along Songnisan's lower slopes come together in one high vantage point. Plan your route so the observatory parking and a trip to Beopjusa Temple flow in one direction rather than backtracking. Cars and cyclists share the walking path up to the lookout, so stay alert even on foot.

Jeongnyeongchi Rest Area
This is where the high-altitude road through Jirisan gives way to views of the ridgelines around Namwon changing color. Check both the closure status of the Nogodan–Seongsamjae stretch and the rest area's operating hours before setting out. If fog or icing is forecast, it's better to skip the pass entirely.

Bukak Palgakjeong
A rare spot to catch both the foliage on Bukhansan's ridge and the night skyline from inside Seoul proper. Factor in traffic on Bukak Skyway and the wait for parking at Palgakjeong, and compare it against public transit if conditions look bad. Don't slow down or stop abruptly just because the view opens up — it's dangerous for the cars behind you.
